heart racing, awake before sun
lying in wait I can't handle
eyes stutter through the dark
internal systems dismantled.

counting the cracks in the floor
from one tile to another
careful system of back and forth
one foot after the other.

I am always staring at the door
scared
unable to reach the knob
it screams for air.

unprepared to leave
time surmounts
waiting to snuff out the candle
it flickers out.

through the brightest black
steady stream of unconscious thought
rapid movements cease
unprovoked pain becomes lost.

wind fills lungs in open air
the sky seems clear today
uninterested in what's below
or natural decay.

walking through the arch
shooting at the breeze
gentle bedside manner
to put my mind at ease.

no desire to part
from a soul of shape
eternity in heart
through time and space.
